My five years as a student at Bodhi Meditation hasn’t been just five years. It’s been lifetimes. On this occasion of your birthday, I thank you for what I’ve learned through your dharma teaching and your meditation methods. I’ve learned to be flexible, learned to emotionally resilient, and learned that through meditation I live in the eye of the hurricane where it’s calm and quiet while the chaos still rages around me. Meditation gave me a foundation, something I can always count on to hold me in the joyful or sorrowful times. Meditation has turned my list of grievances towards my parents and others has turned into a list of gratitude. Meditation showed me the many times I unknowingly hurt others and I thereby learned humility and the power of forgiveness.
Master, I have realized that there is no time in this world of universal energy. I’d often wondered why I took a translation class at university when I didn’t know a second language. And here I am at Bodhi, editing English words translated from Mandarin. The path was laid down for me long before I came to Bodhi. Your hand has been on my back, gently moving me through the struggles and challenges, all of which I needed to experience in order to grow in empathy and compassion. The blessing occurred lifetimes ago and an agreement made to come together to help the world at this time. I realize now that at the darkest of times it was your voice that encouraged me, lifted me, and prepared me to hear your vow and make a decision to help all sentient beings. Al了the people I had to meet, all the things I had to do, all the places I had to be to arrive at Bodhi Meditation were part of the way.
Thank you Master JinBodhi. Happy Birthday.
With gratitude and love,
